Arkansas AWHONN Chair
Mary Ann Salazar MNSc, RNC-MNN, WHNP-BC
Clinical Services Manager, Labor & Delivery, UAMS, Medical Center

I am currently a resident of Little Rock and currently work in the Labor & Delivery unit at UAMS, Medical Center as their Clinical Services Manager. I have been an obstetric nurse since 1987 in a variety of roles over the years. My career started with a stint as an Army Nurse at Madigan Army Medical Center where I earned my first RNC-OB certification and was first exposed to the world of AWHONN, known than as NAACOG. From there I served several years as a nurse in Labor & Delivery at Baptist Medical Center here in Little Rock with emphasize in perinatal loss support, breastfeeding support and childbirth education. In 1997 I graduated from the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner program at UAMS and expanded my career as a Mother/Baby Supervisor at BMC until accepting a position as Clinical Director of Women’s & Children’s Services at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rogers, AR in 2000. In 2003 I got the opportunity to serve as primary care provider in a prenatal clinic operated by St. Mary’s for uninsured women, I continued in this role until 2011 when I accepted a position here at UAMS as an Advanced Practice Partner in the Maternal/Infant Division which brings me to where I am today. Over the years my love for all things maternal/infant has earned me certifications as an IBCLC, ASPO/LAMAZE Childbirth Educator, Resolve through Sharing Grief Counselor, RNC-Inpatient OB, RNC-Maternal Newborn Nursing and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. One of my primary goals as Chair is to facilitate growth of our Arkansas AWHONN membership so I encourage each and every one of you to grab a peer and share your AWHONN experiences with them. There is so much that AWHONN can offer to the professional nurse; I truly believe that it is one of the most value based organizational memberships that I’ve ever seen. I am very proud to represent Arkansas as your AWHONN Section Chair and look forward to working with you. Please feel free to contact me and share your thoughts on how we can make Arkansas AWHONN stronger together.
